AWS Rd1 2020 - Race Report #winning

What an awesome weekend at the first round of the 2020 AWS Series at the newly revamped NDOR track in Nottingham

Arrived this morning to a really well prepped track, a little damp to start but slowly drying throughout the day - there were over 50 drivers present across the 1/8th Buggy and Truggy class despite some limitations on racers travelling from the new COVID Tier 3 areas 😒

The Tekno team were out in force with Truggy, E Buggys and Nitro Buggys keen to try the new layout and make the most of some decent winter weather

Qualifying is a mixed 1/8th Buggy class and a Truggy class and whilst Matt and Wes were the only Truggy runners we had a shed load across the the Buggy class from newcomers to seasoned team members and of course Dan from RPRC and our very own "world champ" yes it's true, Kev 🤩

Qualifying (Went pretty well ..)

Was great to see some of the guys doing amazing across qualifying and we had so great efforts from the team

In Buggy Dan came out on top with the meeting TQ and with a total of 5 Tekno transferring directly into the A Main it was a great showing and in Truggy, Wes and Matt ended up 2nd and 3rd on the grid for the A Main

Finals (went even better)

First up was the Truggy final - The start was pretty clean and after a few corners saw Matt luckily get past the 2 leaders and manage to create a little gap which ended up being just enough to carry the advantage to the end of the first lap. From there, Matt had a super clean run and managed to keep pulling a lap by lap advantage over the 15 min final to take the win with the Blok / Optifuel powered NT48✌🏼

Next was the C and B Buggy finals seeing some great drives from the teams and further bumps into the main event giving us the majority brand represented #teknorc 👌🏽 some guys got unlucky just missing bumps but hey that's racing sometimes, you all went great 😊

Next was the Buggy A Main - well what a race - possibly the closest I've seen in a long time - Dan took the lead from pole with a fast chasing Freddie T - through the race the lead swapped a few times between the two of them which culminated in an epic few last laps. With Freddies youth v Dans experience (not age obvs) it was great to watch and with a final dive from Freddie to the line, Dan took the win by less than a tenth of a second 👌🏽

Awesome to see this level of driving at a club series. There were other great battles throughout the field notably Liam and Jack Hirst which was also a great tussle to watch with positions swapping over the 15 mins

A great weekend - great to see everybody and well done everyone on your results - see you at Deerdale for Rd2 in a few weeks 💪
